Drayt was the first Morlock to travel in time, using a time machine copied from The Time Traveler's Time Machine. He visited an era one million years into his future, where he observed a world where Morlocks were capable of surviving on the surface in the perpetual twilight. He also encountered the Crab monsters, which he mistook for nonsentient animals. ("On the Surface")
